DIY projects for your home are used as a way to turn your home into your own paradise. Some of the easiest home renovations involve little hassle while others are meant to serve as a home improvement idea while saving money. Luckily enough there are quite a few DIY home projects that are easy to research, can be easy to install, and do not require significant time investment to complete.

Home Improvement Research

Many people question what home project to do as they are looking for easy DIYs to complete while on a budget. It is worthwhile to know that there are many tv shows, YouTube channels, or blog posts that list common projects followed with step by step instructions for completing the task yourself. When researching home improvement projects, Google can be your best resource as there are many different types of DIYs listed by popular sources such as HGTV, Real Simple, YouTube and more. Doing research is a must because it lists tools needed, materials needed, and instructions on how to complete the project if this is unfamiliar to you. If you are looking for common projects that many people undertake themselves, then you have come to the right place.

Here are 5 of the most common home DIY projects you can do to transform your home

1. Yard and Landscape Work

According to a recent survey conducted by Axiom, a Minneapolis marketing firm, 35% of homeowners took part in renovating their yard. This makes sense as many people enjoy spending their downtime outside relaxing in nicer weather.

Many homeowners begin with simple work such as redefining their garden beds. This includes planting flowers, bushes, and shrubs, laying mulch, and edging the garden bed to make the design stand out. Other homeowners take on other DIY’s afterwards such as laying interlock for their patio. This takes more time and effort but is sure to make your backyard vibrant. Adding light fixtures to your patio and garden bed has also been a hot commodity as you can enjoy your work when it becomes darker outside, rather than only seeing your hard work during the day.

Yard and landscape work is the most common DIY project for a reason, it involves working outdoors in the sun, planting flowers, shrubs, and bushes. It is quite easy as all that is needed is a shovel, and the work is less strenuous on your body.

2. Bathroom Renovations

In the same Axiom survey the next most common DIY project that homeowners participate in is renovating the bathroom. The bathroom is of course a very personal space for homeowners so they want it to be in top shape each and every time it’s visited.

Many homeowners choose to renovate their bathrooms because it is an area in the home which receives many visitors, fortunately many projects can take little time and save on money. One common bathroom renovation is painting. Painting the bathroom a certain color can set the mood, for example using a light colored blue to go with a white sink and tub looks astonishing. Other DIYs can include buying small cabinets for storage space used to hold soap, toilet paper and other necessities. Replacing a bathroom vanity can be expensive, so instead of replacing why not paint this as well. Painting the vanity in the color you please can bring pop into the room making your bathroom look as stylish as possible. Other small projects that homeowners like to partake in can include hanging mirrors on the wall, installing hooks to hang towels, or adding more shades around the windows in the room for privacy.

3. Kitchen Renovations

Axiom listed kitchen renovations to be the third most common home DIY project that homeowners like to complete. Unlike the first two mentioned, this project can be costly because it involves more work.

Kitchen remodeling DIYs normally involve extensive work. If you are looking for budget friendly work then the first idea can be to paint the kitchen to brighten up the area. Choose a color like white that blends well with the appliances and attracts natural light brightening up your kitchen. It is important to not only paint the walls but also consider painting the kitchen cabinets and other storage areas. You want the area to be matching with one another for it to truly stand out. Another cheaper option for remodeling your kitchen can be to redo the tiling on the floor using tiles such as Luxury Vinyl Tile. This tile you can lay on top of the previous tile and then lock them into place with one another. This tile can be installed in a few days and looks fantastic in the kitchen.

If being on a budget is not an issue, other DIY projects for the kitchen can include installing new appliances. With technology constantly changing there are plenty of options available for a new fridge, stove, and oven that can help with cooking. Installing new countertops is another way to revitalize your kitchen. Countertops are essential for the kitchen as this is where many people gather, prepare food, or spend time.

4. Bedroom Renovations

The fourth most common DIY home improvement project is renovating the bedroom. A bedroom is an area where just under half of the day is spent so it makes sense that many homeowners want to make this area special. Many projects for the room are quick and easy to complete and it makes this space feel personal.

To begin it is recommended that you paint your room. Paint the room in a color that resembles comfort and warmth because after all this is where you will be sleeping. Colors like light blue, light green, beige, and lavender are all considered calming and induce feelings of comfort. You can also accent the wall’s color by hanging pictures or decor that bring a little more style. The next thing is by finding the right size furniture for storage. It is important to be mindful of the size of the room and purchase furniture that fits properly. This furniture can include things like cupboards for storage, dresser drawers for clothing, a desk for work, and even a stand for a television. Many companies like IKEA offer budget-friendly, but decorative furniture that allow you to design the room to your liking while meeting budget requirements. Another addition important for redesigning your bedroom is to make sure that there is enough lighting. This can include natural light by having windows, or hanging a ceiling light or placing lighting around the room.

5. Office Renovations

Due to recent changes the home office has become a hot commodity for DIY projects lately. With many people working from home it is essential that your office is a place of comfort and accessibility.

The first major focus is to paint the room in a color that is relaxing. As mentioned earlier colors like light blue, lavender, beige induce feelings of comfort in the bedroom but this is also important for your office. Paint the room in a color that makes you feel comfortable and happy while working which can reduce stress.

There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to find what you are looking for when working, and that is why it is important to build storage spaces near the work area. You can install open-shelving for holding files, books, and important papers. You can also use the shelving for holding other necessities such as a printer, writing tools, and other needs at work.

Completing your DIY Projects

Home DIY projects can be enjoyable and budget-friendly, truly making your home into something special. These common projects have helped many homeowners redefine their living space to their liking while limiting the cost. To make something feel like your own, do research, see what others have done, and plan your next project.
